Why Did I Get Out of Bed This Morning?

Some days, getting out of bed feels less like a graceful beginning and more like a hostage negotiation.

This morning, I opened one eye, looked at the clock, and seriously considered pretending I didn’t have responsibilities.

Then my brain started.

“You have a website to finish.”

“You have books to write.”

“You forgot to switch the laundry.”

“Did you ever answer that email?”

“What exactly is OneDrive doing now?”

At that point, sleep wasn’t an option anymore.

So I did what every mature adult does.

I made coffee.

Some people wake up inspired. Others wake up with purpose.

I wake up because the coffee machine can’t operate itself.

The funny thing is that once I’m actually up, life usually turns out better than my imagination predicted at 6:15 a.m. The project gets finished. The problem gets solved. The idea that seemed impossible yesterday suddenly has an answer.

I’ve learned that motivation rarely arrives before I start moving.

Sometimes the bravest thing we do isn’t changing the world.

Sometimes it’s simply putting both feet on the floor, taking a deep breath, and deciding to show up anyway.

Besides…

The coffee deserves my full attention.
